The Team With A Dream
We dared to dream of pursuing a new, radical reality.
In 2015 Ashley and I made our first trip to California together. We started in San Diego and drove the PCH all the way to San Francisco stopping to see friends and sights along the way. One of Ashley's business partners learned of our trip and demanded he connect us with his favorite winery so we could tour and taste. At the time, we were drinking a little wine very casually and certainly unconsciously; with dinner or a movie or a work event. Little did we know, our world as we knew it was about to change.
Arriving at this particular winery we were greeted by four golden retrievers, a crisp, clean Sauvignon Blanc, and open arms from warm, soon to be friends. As we walked through the vineyards and tasted the wines we were overwhelmed by the purity and honesty surrounding us and the calmness and clarity we were acquiring.
Fast forward to one year later. I took a part-time job at a winery in Northern Virginia and we both began tasting and learning daily. Ashley had already said good-bye to the corporate world to start her own venture and I was honing in on my motivations. I had kept in contact with the hospitality associate from that first winery we visited in California and began learning about harvest opportunities. With one massive, giant leap of faith, that friend found us a room to rent in Napa and through positive encouragement and blissful ignorance we left all we had on the East Coast and moved across the country... for a low paying, temporary job that really made mom proud ;)
Another fast forward to another year later and two vintages in, we have done all we can to be sponges and learn as much as possible. We saw a "grapes-for-sale" listing in July 2017 and decided that through determination, hard work, and a little luck, we could score our first ton of grapes and begin making our own wine. After all, we did not move across the country, leave our closest friends and family, to not make our own wine.
This was the dream, this is the dream, and we are so grateful to share it with you.
